Permanencia Transitoria

• Authorizes foreigners to stay in Chile for 90 days¹

• Extendable for an additional 90 days for $100²

Temporary Residence

• Allows foreigners to live and work in Chile for up to 2 years³

• Categories for temporary residence include retirees, investors, and sponsored employees

• Temporary residence can be extended within 90 days of its expiration date⁴

Permanent Residence

• Permits temporary residents indefinite residence⁵

• Applicants must have been temporary residents for at least 12 months

Citizenship

• 2 common ways for foreigners to become Chilean citizens:

  • 18 years or older, permanent resident, and have lived in Chile for 5 or more years from the date temporary residence was approved⁶

  • Permanent resident, 2 or more years of continuous residence in Chile from the date temporary residence was approved, and any of the family ties below:

    • Spouse of a Chilean citizen for at least 2 years⁷

    • Parent or child of a Chilean citizen

    • Adopted by Chilean citizens

    • Parents lost their Chilean citizenship before applicants birth
